Jesus healed two people and still wasn't rushed.

Reader,

We're officially in June. It's 10:30 pm as I write this. And I can't help but crave an unhurried, unrushed, simpler lifestyle.

I'm still fresh off a 16-hour drive from New York to Milwaukee after an extended stay in New York for 2 months. I crammed a week's worth of work into 5 hours, and just finished reading Open the Barn Door for the 18th time (a little exaggeration here) to my baby girl.

I am burnt out.

As I reflect on what's on my plate, what needs to be taken off, safeguarded, or shifted, I can't help but think about Jesus's pace in Mark 5. A ruler of the synagogue fell on his knees before Jesus, petitioning him to come to his house to heal his daughter. She was very sick and on the verge of death.

As Jesus was on the way, a woman with an issue of blood touched His garment, and by faith was healed. He then stopped to address the woman publicly - announcing that her faith made her well, go in peace, and she was now made whole (Mark 5:34).

Jesus eventually was able to go on to the ruler's house and raised the now pronounced dead daughter to life. Both these situations required a sense of urgency, yet we don't see Jesus rushing or anxious.

We don't see him overwhelmed by the thousands of people in the crowd touching Him (Mark 5:31). We don't see Jesus complaining that everyone needs His attention.

But all in this one setting, we do see him answer the plea of the people around Him, healed two people (and prob more), and validate the faith of both the synagogue ruler and the woman with the issue of blood (Mark 5:34,36).

That's because Jesus was intentional.

Everything He did was with a divine focus and in alignment with what the Father wanted. Jesus did not divert from the Will of God, or entertain anything that was not in His purpose. He ate what was on His plate and did not add anything extra. This is why He was able to confidently say in John 17:4 I have glorified you on the earth. I have finished the work that you gave me to do.

Reader, this is my deepest life desire for us. To not live life on a constant hamster wheel trying to make it or keep up with ourselves, we miss the pace and beauty of what God is giving us. Take it from me, a highly ambitious woman with major life goals and a tight schedule - it's not worth it.

It's not worth spending all day trying to make a name for yourself, adding a bunch of things to your plate, producing, and making things happen, so much so that you have no energy left for God, your family, or yourself.

As we continue out this year, I am permitting myself to be more like Jesus. To make a schedule with intentionality, to pick up things only in alignment with God's assignment for me, not because it sounds good or makes sense, but because it's purposeful, to pause work at 3 pm to cook dinner, and turn my phone on DND at 6 pm because it's family time and I am permitting you too (whatever this may look like for you!).

SB: Just in case your flesh tells you you can't live this type of lifestyle and build a highly successful and profitable business, the devil is a liar. God showed me that this is even MORE possible when we follow His pace and His lead. I think we should do just that!

Until Next Time!

Hey Reader, We’re already 5 months into the year… how are you really doing? I know I haven’t been in your inbox much lately. I’ve been deep in the weeds of building out this nonprofit agency, and if I’m honest, this season has stretched me. There have been multiple times where I came close to securing a government contract, only for it to fall through. And each time, I found myself going back to God asking Him to open the door, send the opportunity, or make a way. But recently, I felt the...

Hey sis, Last week I celebrated my 31st birthday!!! I spent the day in the windy city of Chicago like a full tourist with my husband and baby girl. By 10am we were walking through the Chicago Zoo which is FREE by the way if you ever wanted to visit. My baby girl was in absolute awe. Every animal we passed got a big “Hiii!” a wave, or a loud “Wowww!” from her little voice. It was the sweetest thing to watch. By around 3pm we were in the heart of the city grabbing ramen, a rose shaped ice cream...
